Sundays in Sedona: Chamber Music Afternoons

We are pleased to offer ten concerts of diversity and unparalleled artistic excellence. This season we explore music from the baroque to bluegrass. Please scroll down for complete concert details.
Our ten chamber ensembles range from the traditional string quartet to a guitar quartet, three diverse mixed duos, two piano trios - one traditional and the other not so, one piano quartet, solo cello. We bring the season to a close with a very traditional yet not so traditional string quartet including guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and vocals.

The 28th Season Member's Subscription Drive is now closed.The subscription offer was mailed and also offered to our email MusiCast readers. Many of you have joined as new members, while others have renewed their seats. If you have not already a CMS memer, we invite you to join now . A new benefit of membership this season will be discounted tickets for the upcoming The Met: Live in HD series.

We're very excited about the 2010-2011 season and look forward to welcoming you as a member during our 28th season of Magical Music in the Red Rocks. In addition to the ten concerts, the 2010-2011 season will include five Evening Chamber Music at the Library concerts, nine in-school Concerts for Youth, and the Quick-Bowman Piano Competition for youth.

All regular  season concerts begin at 2:30 p.m. and are held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.   The Sedona Bluegrass Festival 2011 will be held at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa, Creekside.

The Santa Fe Guitar Quartet of Argentina

Sunday, October 17 - 2:30pm

Combining the talents of two Argentineans and two North Americans, the SFGQ celebrates twenty seasons performing in recital and with orchestras. The SFGQ has enjoyed sold-out houses throughout North and South America including Lincoln Center and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Eugenia Zukerman, flute and Milana Strezeva, piano

Zukerman is an internationally renowned recitalist and soloist. Her 2010-2011 season includes appearances as a flutist, writer, artistic director, television/web journalist and educator. She is joined by  Manhattan Piano Trio pianist, Milana Strezeva, in a program of music by women composers.

The Orion String Quartet

Sunday, November 21 - 2:30pm

The Orion String Quartet is the Quartet in Residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and has worked closely with Pablo Casals, Rudolf Serkin, Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma, Peter Serkin, András Schiff, and the Beaux Arts Trio.

Canellakis Duo with Roman Rabinovich, piano

January 5-9 Residency
Concert-Sunday, January 9 - 2:30pm

The distinguished brother and sister duo, violinist Karina and cellist Nicholas, will be joined by Roman Rabinovich, the winner of the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, for eight free and fee-based events including three in-school Concerts for Youth in the first of three four-day residencies as CMS Artists in Residence planned for the 10-11 Season.

The Claremont Piano Trio

The McDermott String Trio with Paul Neubauer,viola

The McDermott Trio has been hailed for its "dazzling virtuosity and beautifully integrated ensemble" and is recognized as one of the most exciting trios on the musical scene. Pianist Anne-Marie is an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, violinist Kerry is a member of the NY Philharmonic, and cellist Maureen is an original member of CELLO. Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center artist member violist, Paul Neubauer, joins the Trio for an enchanted afternoon.

Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg

Sunday, March 6 - 2:30pm

Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg are two of the world's finest mandolinists. They will take you on a journey through the history of the mandolin as it made its way from 16th-century Europe to the new world of the Americas, picking up strains of melodies from each new place and the many musical hands. Marshall's stints with the David Grisman Quintet, the Modern Mandolin Quartet and with mandolin sensation Chris Thile are complemented by Lichtenberg's baroque and European influences.

Zuill Bailey, cello

Sunday, March 13 - 2:30pm

Zuill Bailey is considered one of the pre-eminent cellists of his generation. His rare combination of compelling artistry, technical finesse, and engaging personality has secured his place as one of the most sought-after cellists today. Mr. Bailey is featured as the second of three CMS Artists in Residence, and, in a unique collaboration, Mr. Bailey will perform the Dvorak Concerto with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra on March 11, returns to Sedona for a Salon Concert March 12, then Sunday's concert, performing three of the six incomparable unaccompanied cello suites by JS Bach.

Ida Kavafian enjoys an international reputation as one of the most versatile musicians performing today. With a repertoire as diverse as her talents, Ms. Kavafian has electrified recital and orchestral stages nationally and internationally. She is Music From Angel Fire Artistic Director, was a member of the Beaux Arts Trio and is an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Jeffrey Swann's solo, chamber music and orchestral piano career has taken him around the globe collaborating with many of the world's finest conductors and chamber musicians.

Sedona Bluegrass Festival 2011 - Claire Lynch Acoustic Quartet

Los Abrigados Resort & Spa - Creekside

Grammy nominated songwriter, guitarist and singer Claire Lynch brings her acoustic quartet to town as the third of three CMS Artists in Residence in a five-day series of Bluegrass activities culminating in the Sunday Festival. Lynch's quartet is joined by three additional bands TBA.
